Taylor's Lodge, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal (September 2009)
Taylor's (Taylor Fladgate in the U.S.) is up a steep hill from the river. The lodge or cave is surrounded by gardens and has a beautiful view of Porto across the river, and they offer a first-rate free tour with tastings. At the end we took advantage of the chance to taste vintage port from a single quinta (the property where the grapes are grown). That's something most lodges don't offer. We may never taste vintage port again, but now we know what we're missing.
