Balboa Yacht Club, Panamá (February 2008)
Almost every cruiser who transits the Panama Canal stops at the Balboa Yacht Club (BYC) either before or after. They have a nice restaurant and bar, but otherwise it isn't as glamorous as it sounds.
Dinghies aren't allowed at BYC for security reasons: everyone takes the water taxi. This definitely reduces boat-to-boat socializing. Calls for lancha, por favor pepper the radio on channel 06. Usually the taxi is prompt, but sometimes repeated calls are required.
