Dominica (pronounced Domineeka, accent on the third syllable, like the old song) is among the least developed islands in the eastern Caribbean and one of the most beautiful. Its many volcanos are topped with rain forest. We didn't stay as long as we would have liked because there was quite a bit of swell in the anchorage. We did, however, take a boat tour of the Indian River and a taxi tour of the island.
No motors are allowed on the Indian River, so our guide, Cobra, had to row while narrating in French and English. Very impressive. No trace of the sets for the second Pirates of the Caribbean remain, a condition of using the riverfront for the movie.
Robert, our taxi tour driver, was also good. This part of the day included a hike to a waterfall and lots of flowers, mountaintop views, and even an iguana.
