Ostend, Belgium (August 2008)
Ostend (Dutch spelling is Oostende) was our base for exploring a little of Belgium. From our secure berth inside the lock at the Mercator Marina we were within easy walking distance of the train and the coast tram, as well as all of the shopping we could possibly want.
From here we made two daytrips to Bruges (Dutch: Brugge) and one to Brussels. Thanks to a delay in our departure caused by weather, we also got to explore the fabulous VMMK, the state museum of modern art. It's on the other side of a lovely park filled with sculptures.
